Judgment Day could have easily been the biggest day of Lashley's career. But, thanks to Finlay and Booker T, the night turned into his most frustrating. Facing off against Booker in the King of the Ring finals, Lashley looked to be in control, closing in on the crown while launching himself into the WWE stratosphere. Unfortunately for Lashley, Finlay took it upon himself to interfere in the contest, hitting the newcomer with the shillelagh, allowing Booker T to take advantage and win the match.
Lashley brawled with Finlay throughout the month leading up to WrestleMania 22 and both Superstars landed a spot in the 6-man Money in the Bank ladder match. WrestleMania 22 was Lashley's first time at the big dance, and while he didn't come out victorious, it was clear that this rising star would be a force for many years to come.
After WrestleMania, Lashley turned his attention towards the King of the Ring Tournament on SmackDown.
